Why do Caucasians generally have a higher mental capacity than other races?

I mean they invented everything you see today. Why are they smarter than all the other races? Does lack of melanin have anything to do with that? Or does living in colder climates make your brain run more efficiently? What is the "secret" behind a white man's brain that distinguishes his mental ability to do things and think greater than nonwhites?
