What kind of mp3 player can I get that doesn't require software (like iTunes)?

I don't want to buy one that will require me to have special software to use it but I'm tired of the janky ones I've bought from China via Ebay. They break in less than a year. So a simple mp3 player that preferably has a warranty but doesn't require installation. Also, I run Ubuntu Linux (if you don't know what that is, sorry, you're probably not the person to answer this question) another reason I don't want proprietary software.
